Stop procrastinating and get motivated

Procrastination is a common problem in most people’s lives. The results of procrastinating can be minimal, a mere annoyance or they can be drastic. Little things that we put off can become major tasks. Put off doing the dishes for a week and it will take you a few hours to wash them all. Procrastinating about major things in life is one of the main reasons that you will not fulfil your dreams.

Why we procrastinate

There are many reasons for procrastination. We may feel that the task is mundane and so we always find something more interesting to do. We are all guilty of this type of procrastination. If the task is important to us then our reasons for procrastinating becomes more complex. It is usually because of one or more of the following reasons

* fear of rejection
* fear of failure and/or
* not feeling worthy or deserving.

The price to pay for procrastination

If the task is a mundane one then if you keep procrastinating you may start to feel guilty. You may not accept invitations to go out and enjoy yourself because you know that you really should (for instance) get that painting done today. And yet somehow, even though you have stayed home to do it, you never quite get around to it. Or if you do go out, the task is still there waiting for you when you return.

Your self worth is likely to suffer.

Your stress levels may rise because in the back of your mind you know you have a task to do.

You may be letting others down.

You may have someone who keeps asking or telling you to complete the task.

If it is a larger task, then you will live with unfulfilled dreams and goals. You may find that you begin to dislike yourself because you do not have the courage to go after your dreams. Your life will become average and mundane and you will

always wonder ‘what if’.

To overcome this sort of procrastination you need to do a little soul searching and evaluating of your life. Work on the exercises to develop the Solar Plexus Chakra. This will help you overcome your fears and build on yourself worth. So you will then be ready and willing to follow your dreams.

Getting motivated

So how do you motivate yourself?

Two things are known to motivate humans

1. fear of pain

2. pleasure

So make a list of all the pain you will gain and pleasure you will miss out on by not painting the house (or whatever it is you are putting off). It could be some of the ones mentioned above.

Then make a list of the pleasure you will gain from having achieved your goal. This could be a sense of satisfaction from having completed something; no more guilt; you can go out and enjoy yourself etc. Make the lists as long as it needs to be and really think hard about your pain and pleasure.

The better the list, the easier it will be for you to get on with the job at hand.

If it is a long-term task review your list daily and whenever you need to throughout the day. Also, if it is a long-term task, break it down into small manageable pieces. Write them down on a list and cross them off as you complete them. This helps you keep a track of your progress and helps keep you motivated. Work with the sacral and solar plexus chakras. The sacral chakra will help with the passion and enthusiasm and the solar plexus chakra will help you build your will, your self-worth and overcome your fears.

Of course the other option is - Just Do IT.
